Create a service area map

Learn how to create a public service area map from a suburb list, spreadsheet, or boundary you draw yourself.

Use the Service Area Map Generator when you want to show the general area your mobile service business covers.

You can create a map from suburbs or postcodes, or you can draw the boundary directly on the map.

The result is useful for a website service-area page, a social profile, a customer message, or a quick visual when someone asks whether you service their suburb.

Common ways to use it

Build from suburbs or postcodes

Use this when you already have a list of areas you cover.

That list might come from your website, a spreadsheet, a booking export, or a note you keep for quoting and enquiries.

Draw the area yourself

Use this when you know the rough area but do not want to enter every suburb.

Click around the map to create a boundary, lock the area, then export it.

Prepare website text

After a map is ready, the tool can generate starter text for using the map on your website.

You can copy suggested alt text, a caption, a short service area paragraph, and an HTML snippet.

Before you start

If you are using a list, prepare suburbs, postcodes, or a spreadsheet with a suburb or postcode column.

If you are drawing the area, you do not need a list. You only need to know the approximate boundary you want to show.

Create a map from a pasted list

  1. Open Service Area Map Generator.
  2. Type your base suburb or postcode into Base suburb or postcode and select a result.
  3. Choose Paste.
  4. Paste suburbs or postcodes into the list field.
  5. Select Generate map.

If the tool asks for column settings, choose the column that contains the suburb or postcode.

Create a map from a CSV or XLSX file

  1. Open Service Area Map Generator.
  2. Type your base suburb or postcode into Base suburb or postcode and select a result.
  3. Choose Upload.
  4. Select a CSV or XLSX file.
  5. Check the column settings if they appear.
  6. Select Generate map.

The file should include suburb or postcode data. A state column is helpful when your file covers more than one state.

Draw a service area on the map

  1. Open Service Area Map Generator.
  2. Choose Draw.
  3. Click the map to add boundary points.
  4. Add at least 3 points.
  5. Drag a boundary point if you need to adjust it.
  6. Select Lock Area when the boundary is ready.
  7. Add your business name if you want it included in the export.
  8. Select Export.

Use Edit Boundary if you need to change the area after locking it.

Review unmatched areas

When you create a map from a list, some suburbs or postcodes may not match cleanly.

Open Check unmatched areas to see anything the tool could not place on the map.

Common causes include:

  • misspelled suburb names
  • missing or incorrect postcodes
  • suburbs that exist in more than one state
  • areas outside the tool’s current resolver coverage

Update the list and generate the map again if important areas are missing.

Copy website companion text

After the map is ready, use Website companion output to copy:

  • Suggested alt text
  • Suggested caption
  • Suggested service area paragraph
  • Suggested HTML snippet

Treat this as starter copy. Adjust it so it matches how your business normally describes its service area.

Good to know

  • The map is a guide to your general service area.
  • The tool is Australia-first. Outside Australia, use Draw to create the map manually.
  • CSV and XLSX files are supported.
  • Uploaded files are processed in your browser.
  • For listed areas, only area names and row counts are sent to place the map.
  • The tool imports up to the first 500 data rows from a spreadsheet.
  • The tool can generate a map from up to 50 unique listed areas at a time.
  • The draw mode supports up to the point limit shown in the drawing controls.
  • The tool does not create clients, leads, bookings, or other MobiFlex records.
  • No MobiFlex account is required.

Troubleshooting

My suburb or postcode did not appear

Open Check unmatched areas and review the reason shown beside the area.

Check the spelling and postcode. If the suburb name exists in more than one state, select a different base suburb from the correct state and try again.

The boundary needs more areas

If the tool says the service area boundary needs at least 3 matched areas, add more suburbs or postcodes, or switch to Draw and create the boundary manually.

The exported image does not work

Some browsers may block map tile export. Try again in a different browser, or use the visible map as a guide while you prepare a screenshot.

I do not have a suburb list

Choose Draw and click the map to create the service area yourself.
